ublic Radio station WFIU
began broadcasting October 1, 1950. During its first nine months of operation,
the station averaged 37.5 hours of programming per week. Today, WFIU broadcasts
24 hours a day, with a signal strength from Bloomington that covers south
and west central Indiana. The station's service extends beyond its "local"
area with translators in Terre Haute, Columbus, and Kokomo, Indiana.
The WFIU library houses over 20,000 recordings. With the national syndication of the early music series Harmonia , and the international distribution of A Moment of Science, WFIU reaches millions of people each week.
